Buisness - GoFundMe's 2025 Year in Help Report Reveals A Growing Community of Global Helpers

Nearly 80 million donations to individuals and nonprofits show how people united this year to support communities around the world

SAN DIEGO, USA -- (BUSINESS WIRE)

Thursday December 11, 2025

GoFundMe released its 2025 Year in Help report, offering a sweeping look at how individuals and nonprofits came together on the platform to support one another through crisis, milestones, and moments of opportunity. In a year marked by natural disasters and growing everyday needs, the power of help united communities like never before: with 2.5 donations made every second on average, people across the globe came to GoFundMe to lift up others, support nonprofits, and strengthen communities.

This year, people showed their support through more than 47 million donations to individual fundraisers and 32 million donations to nonprofits, and they further amplified causes by sharing fundraisers more than 72 million times. The desire to help went even further: more than 155,000 people started a fundraiser for a nonprofit, nearly half of them for the first time ever - stepping up not just to give, but to inspire others to join them. The Charity category became the fastest-growing this year, followed by Monthly Bills and Faith. Together, this momentum shows a platform powered by individual acts of generosity and by the vital, ongoing work of nonprofits using GoFundMe to further their missions.

"GoFundMe is unique because it brings together people and nonprofits across 20 countries to help one another," said Tim Cadogan, CEO of GoFundMe. "Whether people turn to the vast, engaged community on our platform to celebrate life's greatest achievements or to support loved ones, neighbors, or causes close to their hearts, our goal is to make that easier - and to foster a trusted home for sustained help and connection. What we continue to see is that when needs grow, individuals and nonprofits respond with even more generosity."

Ireland topped the list as the Most Generous Country for the seventh consecutive year. This year's rankings also coincide with the 10-year anniversary of GoFundMe in Australia, which is recognized among the most generous nations. GoFundMe's Most Generous Countries of 2025 measured by donors per capita are:

Ireland

United States

United Kingdom

Australia

Canada

Netherlands

Germany

Switzerland

Austria

Italy

Across the platform, 2025 revealed a universal truth: no matter the cause, people show up for one another in every facet of life. More than 95,000 people turned to GoFundMe with the dream of starting their own business, and support for business fundraisers continued to grow. More fundraisers were started to support food banks than for any other community cause. And individuals took action - with fundraisers for volunteering increasing by 3 times. When people didn't know where to turn in moments of crisis, our community proved to be a place for trusted help - raising $330 million for natural disaster relief.

Olympic hopefuls used the platform to help realize their dreams, and more than 95,000 donors supported young athletes in shaping theirs. Educators received help outfitting classrooms as fundraising for school supplies surged by more than 50%. And when essential-expense fundraising rose by 20% this year, communities stepped in - offering direct help to individuals and donating to the nonprofits providing resources to those in need, especially those facing food insecurity.

This year's report also reflects how technology can be used to support people and causes more easily, quickly, and effectively. In 2025, GoFundMe launched Giving Funds, GoFundMe's take on a modern donor-advised fund that removes all barriers to entry to make charitable saving, investing, and giving more accessible.

The company reimagined how people connect with causes through social challenges that turn everyday activity into collective action, and inspired more than 80,000 organizers to activate for a nonprofit cause - with participants signing up to run, walk, cycle, and swim more than 6 million miles, a distance powerful enough to travel to the Moon and back more than 12 times. GoFundMe's AI-enabled innovations continued to simplify and strengthen fundraising, with these tools helping individuals and nonprofits share their stories and fundraise more effectively - used more than 70 million times to-date.

This year also marked 15 years of generosity on GoFundMe, a milestone shaped by personal acts of help and by nonprofit missions that lift communities. Since 2010, more than $40 billion in help has been enabled through the platform, and over 166,000 nonprofits have been supported. From the beginning, nonprofits have been core to GoFundMe - the very first donation ever made on the platform was a $100 gift to charity, setting the tone for what the platform would become: a place where individuals help each other and support nonprofits in ways that create lasting impact.

2025 reaffirmed that the most powerful help is shared help - and that when people and nonprofits work together, communities thrive.
